Shannon Paulk

Child Talks to Mystery Man and Disappears

From AMW:

Outgoing 11-year-old Shannon Paulk was used to wandering around her Candlestick Trailer Park neighborhood. She considered everyone in the community to be an extended part of her family, and would often go into her neighbor's trailers to watch TV, grab a snack, and wait to greet them when they got home. To Shannon, no one was a stranger and everyone was a friend.

On August 16, 2001 Shannon finally met a stranger. At around 2:30 p.m., two of Shannon's friends were on a walk through the trailer park, when they saw Shannon talking to an unfamiliar man. Nearby was a white, four-door car, with red clay mud on the back. They went up to talk to Shannon, but she didn't introduce them to the newcomer, so they figured she didn't really know him very well. The girls talked briefly, then parted ways. When Shannon's friends passed by again half an hour later, Shannon, the mysterious man, and the car were all gone. Shannon was never seen again

Local and federal police and neighbors formed "Shannon's Task Force," to help find Shannon. The two girls who saw the mysterious man talking to Shannon came forward and gave police the description of a man aged 35 to 45 years, about 5'11" to 6'0" tall, with a medium beer belly, muscular hairy arms, and blond hair with gray streaks. A huge characteristic was a large, protruding mole underneath his right eye. Two mole hairs were growing out of the mole towards his nose.

After weeks of searching, Det. Robert Furlong of the Prattville, Ala. police department still had no new leads. Then, two months later, Det. Furlong got the call he had been dreading. Shannon's body had been found in the woods, discovered by rabbit hunters.

The case had been upgraded from a missing child to a murdered child, and Det. Furlong was more determined than ever to find who did it. But a large amount of determination doesn't necessarily lead to results. After a while, the leads dried up, and Det. Furlong felt no closer to solving the case.

On August 19, 2003, only a few days after the two year anniversary of Shannon's disappearance, he sat down to watch the local news and became very alarmed. The newscast said that in Northport, Ala., only 45 minutes away from where Shannon disappeared, an 11 year-old girl went missing from her trailer park home. Heaven LaShae Ross left home after her older sister to walk the 100 yards to the bus stop. She never made it to the bus stop.

Heaven was a sweet little girl who loved to roam freely around the trailer park, and never knew a stranger.

New Hope, False Hope

Shortly after America's Most Wanted profiled the murder of Shannon Paulk, an AMW tipster came through with a great lead. She remembered an attempted abduction of a little 10-year-old girl from a trailer park in Lexington County, S.C. eight years ago: the man drove a grey pick-up truck with a toolbox, water cooler, and ladder in the back, and had a large mole under his right eye. Luckily, the little girl got away and was not harmed.

During this time, Shannon's mother, Marie Paulk, received a phone call from a man who admitted to murdering Shannon. The man then proceeded to give graphic details of the different ways he had violated Shannon, and then how he killed her. Luckily, Marie played it cool and contacted Det. Furlong so the call could be recorded.

Det. Furlong traced the call to a hospital in Lansing, Mich. and worked with police there to discover the identity of the mysterious caller. They determined that the man did not kill Shannon, but was merely having fun by causing Marie emotional pain. Unfortunately, harassing a victim is a misdemeanor, so it hasn't been determined yet how much of a punishment the man will get. Det. Furlong is in the process of lobbying for laws to be changed so that people cannot harass victims so freely.

**************************

This case was sent to me by several different readers. Like the Heaven LeShea Ross case, to which this one is often compared, the Paulk case has both the body and a suspect. Since we know that Shannon is dead and we have a description of her killer, what more can Astrology offer in this case? I am thinking perhaps a description of her killer with details that may not be known and a comparison to a few other cases, to see if they match. I have seen the suspect drawings in the Paulk case and have already profiled the killer in the Ross case so comparisons can be made. Also, we can use this case to validate some of the findings in the charts.

For instance, the car that this man was driving was said to be a gray truck with a toolbox, ladder and water cooler in the back. In the first chart, which is for the time when Shannon was last seen, speaking to this man, in fact, you can see that the third house ruler is Uranus in Aquarius. Traditionally, Aquarius describes an ashy color with some bluing. An air sign like Aquarius would describe the ladder. Especially a fixed air sign, in fact. Now, this is a bit of stretch in my opinion but the placement of Neptune in Aquarius in the second house could describe the water cooler. Especially when you consider that the second is the twelfth from the third, which would mean the backseat, the trunk or the truck bed. Neptune would describe water and in the sign Aquarius, likely a cooling source like an air conditioner or a cooler, perhaps. This would really fit well if the cooler was run on battery power or another electrical source. This is not a necessary peice of information but it does help us validate the charts and determine their viability.

Right off the bat, when I look at this chart, I see an assault and murder that happens right then and very quickly. The charts do not show him taking her elsewhere or spending any time with her at all. Pluto and Mars are right at the Ascendant, showing a forceful attack. The chart co ruler, the Moon, is in the eighth house and is the ruler of the eighth house, as well. The first house ruler, Jupiter, is also in Cancer, in the seventh house conjoined the north node. This was a planned attack. It wasn't a random thing. He chose Shannon and had it all planned out. Saturn on the seventh house cusp shows us obsession, a constant thinking and planning. A strong focus on this type of thing with Saturn disposed of by Mercury, the traditional ruler of children, shows that his focus is on children. The Moon, the chart co ruler, is conjoined Venus, so he chooses girls. In fact, he stalked Shannon for quite some time before killing her. Pluto and Mars are disposed of by Jupiter, which, again, is conjoined the node. The blitz attack is part of his method of operation. He just attacks the girls and kills them quickly. Jupiter is disposed of the Moon, which rules the eighth house from the eighth house, so the whole point of this is to kill the girl. He wants to kill her and that's the whole reason he does it. I do not see rape or other activity, although I can't rule that out, but the true intent is murder.

Mercury, the traditional ruler of children and the ruler of the seventh house, is conjoined the Sun in the ninth house. Being under the Sun's beams, this describes a situation of grave danger. Shannon wasn't the only child in danger that day and perhaps she wasn't the first or the last. That brings me to the Heaven LaShea Ross case and the possibility that these girls were killed by the same man. There is nothing in charts that rules this out at this point but I will have to examine both charts together in order to draw a conclusion. In that case, the abductor was defined by Neptune in Aquarius and here, we see him defined by Mercury in Virgo. These is some degree of difference here but there are also similarities. I will get into that in a moment.

Discuss This Case At My Forum

One of the similiarities that stands out for me is the fourth and tenth house descriptors. In this chart, Mercury in Virgo describes the abductors residence and Neptune in Aquarius describes Shannon's home. Neptune in Aquarius describes a fixed residence that is moveable. Uranus in Aquarius is actually placed in the fourth house, putting emphasis on the moveable aspects of the residence. Lots of people coming and going; residents changing on a regular basis; unsual people and transient people. This describes Shannon's home, which we know to be a trailer park. The abductor's home is described by Mercury in Virgo. Mercury defines a moveable structure, as well, and I usually see Mercury as a trailer or other moveable residence and it can even be an RV. The sign Virgo, though, describes something set on the ground, which most trailers are. His trailer would be smaller than hers, something like a studio or a small study if you were to compare it to an apartment in size.

Now I want to address the pervasive belief that these girls were killed by the same man. Despite the difference in the descriptors, this is not ruled out by the charts. Neptune in Aquarius does describe somewhat more attractive than Mercury in Virgo does but they do both describe someone with blond hair. They can also describe light brown hair but they do also indicate dark blond hair (as compared to very light hair) as well. The difference is that both of these placements describe curly, thick hair and I believe the suspect has lanky hair. Many of the descriptors simply cancel each other out. Such as Mercury in Virgo gives a bad complexion and Neptune in Aquarius gives a clear complexion, so that we probably would have someone with an average, unremarkable one. And I am not sure how this would apply to the mole that his man is reported to have on his face? Other interesting descriptors are here, too. For instance, Neptune in Aquarius shows an affinity for technology, things like cameras, ham radios, computers, spy gear, etc... This works fine with Mercury in Virgo, which shows an affinity for scientific gear, as well as medical and laboratory equipment. Both the planet Neptune and the sign Virgo can describe closets, boxes, cabinets, hiding places, etc.. It is very often the case that abducted children are kept, dead or alive, in these types of places.

In comparing both charts, I also note that the north node plays a big role in both. The Moon is conjoined the node in the Ross case and is conjoined the first house ruler, Jupiter, in the Paulk case. This shows planning in both cases and the strong probability that the abductor planned these murders out in great detail in advance. There is also a number of violent aspects in the both charts that stand out. In the Paulk case you have the placement of Mars and Pluto at the first house cusp, describing a violent assault on the person. In the Ross case you have the Moon and node in the eighth house conjoined Algol, the most violent fixed star in the heavens. Both charts describe a violent assault that ends in death.

This brings me to the fixed stars in the Paulk case. Right away, I have to note the placement of the Moon conjoined to the fixed star Pollux, which describes great misfortune or calamity. Venus is conjoined to the fixed star, Geidi Prima, which often means a rape has been committed. This is the first marker in this chart that defines sexual assault. I tend to dismiss it because the attack was so swift and the child was dead so shortly after she was last seen that it seems impossible. It would imply necrophilia and that affliction is very rare. But the real strong marker is Pluto in the first house conjoined the fixed star, Dschubba. This star always describes a murder. Saturn is also directly opposed to Dschubba. There are several other violent fixed stars hanging around Pluto and Mars, describing variously perversity, devious plots and obsessive lust, all of which seem to apply here. In the Heaven Ross case, you can see that the seventh house ruler, Neptune in Aquarius, is directly opposed to the fixed star, Asellus, which describes a deviant, criminal person. In the same chart, please note that Pluto, at the nadir, is directly opposed to the fixed star, Hoedus, which most often describes rape and sexual assault. Pluto is a strong indicator in both charts and is the placement that describes the violence of both attacks the most clearly.

There are, indeed, many similarities between these cases. Both young girls, around the same age, with similar appearances and in trailer parks. There are, however, many murders and abductions of girls in trailer parks nationwide and I have seen many of them in my work. In fact, trailer parks appear to be dangerous places for children, from predators and from parents, alike. I do not think that because these children both lived in trailer parks that this, alone, would link the cases. But there are a lot of people who beleive that the same man killed both girls. This is where I have to compare the descriptors for both abductors and come to a conclusion. In the Paulk case, a suspect has been fingered, he was the man last seen with the girl before she disappeared. They have a drawing of this person and a general description. I would like to make comparisons between this reported description and the markers in both cases. They generally describe him as heavy set but not fat, with a small beer belly, blond hair and a big mole on his face. He has the arms of a working man, muscular and thick and he is around 40 and average in height. In the charts for the Paulk case, we see that the abductor is described by Mercury in Virgo. This placement works with average descriptors in all events, including average height and average weight. But the descriptor in the Ross abduction is defined by Neptune in Aquarius, which gives above average height and thinness. There are traditional markers and I use them but I cannot testify to how well they work. This is our experiment, right here.

The most interesting thing about the description given in the Paulk case is the large mole on the face. There is an old method of linking Astrology to facial moles, I remember reading about it in Zolars Encyclopedia of Ancient and Forbidden Knowledge when was I was about 13 years old. I remember being curious because I had a mole on my chin, which I have since had removed. The book said that the face is divided up by the signs, with Aries at the forehead and Pisces at the chin. It also assigned planes on the face to the various planets. Mercury would be, of course, around the eyes. But Virgo would be the center plane of the face, around the cheeks and upper bridge of the nose. It is not a stretch to say that Mercury in Virgo could describe a mole on the upper plane of the cheek, near the nose, under the eyes. I beleive this is the area they say this man had the mole on his face. So whether or not you think Zolar is a bit of a sideshow event, you might want to give some thought to the areas of the body and face that are ruled or described by Astrology signs and planets.

But what else do the descriptors say? In the instance of the Shannon Paulk abduction, we are looking at Mercury in Virgo as a descriptor and so far the abductor is of average height with a small beer belly, which works with the descriptors traditionally given to Mercury in Virgo. He is also blond, another marker for Virgo. Saturn is at the seventh house cusp and is disposed of by Mercury, which will give age to the profile, and can explain the gray streaks in the hair. This man was, indeed, a bit older than average and was probably closer to 45 than 35, as witnesses claim. Mercury also rules the tenth house cusp so this man was familiar with children through work or family. Most likely work, considering the nature of the tenth house. And, if not work, then he must have been a father and had kids of his own. He emanated a fatherly, paternal energy towards Shannon that either made her feel safe enough to go along or so scared she was intimated into it. I do not beleive, though, when looking at the charts, that he wanted or needed her compliance. I beleive she was forced and assaulted so swiftly she never had a chance.

What else does Mercury in Virgo tell us about this person? He works with his hands, he has a fast walk, he likes to get things done, he isn't lazy, he appears to be modest and humble. He can be forgetful, fussy about food and personal care, easily irritated, critical and argumentative. All of these can apply. He is most likely a working man, as his big arms suggest, working with earth materials most likely. So he is a carpenter or other crafter of wood, a construction worker, a janitor, a mover, a landscaper or a street sweeper. He is most likely often on the move and Mercury always implies someone who moves often. He may be a transient, only in the area for a specific job or to finish a task. He definitely lived in a trailer park, if not the same one at the time. And he is good with kids, being very much like a big kid himself.

Looking at the Ross case again, we see that Neptune in Aquarius describes the abductor. Neptune would always give some degree of narcisism and therefor usually describes a nice body. This person would not allow themselves to get fat or ungainly. There would be charm and wit, and a ready use of it. They would be charismatic and give off a feeling of mystery and allure. They don't have to be sex kittens but they do have a certain mystical quality. Neptune is diametrically opposed to the descriptors given for Virgo. However, Neptune in the sign Aquarius creates an interest in things similar to those attributed to Virgo. They both like science, study, technology, gadgets, etc.. and Virgo loves to use the hands while Aquarius loves to tinker. They are both inclined to be builders, with Aquarius a bit more creative than Virgo and less likely to use earth materials like wood. But this could simply mean that both men, if not the same man, was a construction worker who liked gadgets.

Neptune in Aquarius tends to describe beauty. Being that beauty is a relative thing and in the eyes of each beholder, I usually eschew this type of characterization. No one would say outright that the man who took the Paulk child was beautiful. But I think it boils down to a concern over the appearance and both Virgo and Aquarius share this. They are both clean, orderly personalities who follow the rules. Aquarius can be rebellious but this depends on heavy aspects to Uranus and for the most part they settle in middle class married life and never get into a whit of trouble. So in this regard, both descriptors work fine together. And, overall, they all work together just fine if you toss aside the traditional profiles. No one knows or would bother to know some of those details. But in this case, I am thinking the difference between the signs has to do with what this man was doing at the time.

In the Paulk case, he was driving a car. This is supported by the Mercury in Virgo marker.

In the Ross case, he was up on the roof. This is described by the Neptune in Aquarius marker.

Which would mean, in both cases, this was a construction worker who was transient in the area and most likely lived or stayed in trailer parks. And from this much, I would dare to guess that it could very easily be the same man who took both of these children.

In fact, both children were killed swiftly. In the Paulk case, within minutes. In the Ross case, in less than an hour. Neptune in the fifth house in the Ross case made me believe he took photos of the child, dead or alive and had taken pictures of other children. Photography appeared to be a hobby. In the Paulk case, Neptune rules the fourth house, which is the same as the abductors' tenth house and is placed in the second house, which is the abductors eighth. It would not be a stretch to say that he photographed these events and sold them for money. In fact, he may have made money by selling images of death (eighth house).

Mercury in Virgo was a major player in both cases. Mercury is the natural, traditional marker for kids so this makes sense. Another similar feature is the Moon in the eighth house, showing these children to be dead.

Heaven LaShea Ross

Little Girl Disappears on Walk to School Bus

From AMW :

Heaven has been missing since August 19, 2003.

On the afternoon of December 18, 2006, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office was alerted to an abandoned house in Holt, Ala. Deputies arrived at the house and found the place falling apart. They picked through the home and discovered human skeletal remains. Police say they quickly uncovered clues that suggested the remains belonged to Heaven Ross. Heaven had been abducted from the nearby town, three years earlier.

On Aug. 19, 2003 --a hot and a humid Tuesday morning-- 11-year-old Heaven LaShea Ross hugged and kissed her mother, Beth Lowery, as she left their home at the Willowbrook Trailer Park in Northport, Ala. Shea, as her close friends and family called her, was anxious to join her older sister at the bus stop, which was less than 100 yards from their home.

But little Heaven never reached her destination.

Beth and her husband, Kevin Thompson, notified police after the little girl disappeared and volunteers, helicopters and the Northport Police Department's canine units began an immediate search of the neighborhood and the surrounding area.

Police say a neighbor, who lived a few doors down from Heaven's home, saw her walk by. And another neighbor, close to the bus stop, says she didn't see the child at all.

Yet, somewhere between their two houses, Heaven disappeared. If the three cases are connected, they could be hunting a serial child killer.

Tuesday, December 18 | Police respond to a tip and find skeletal remains in an abandoned house in Holt

From Tuscaloosa News:

A grim discovery Monday afternoon provided some answers to the three-year-old mystery of what happened to Shae Ross.
But the mystery is far from being solved.
Police found remains of the 11-year-old in an abandoned house down a rural, dirt road in Holt Monday afternoon. She was last seen walking to her bus stop on a rainy Tuesday morning in August 2003.
The news left her family and the community that prayed for her safe return heartbroken.
“This has given us some kind of closure from not knowing anything,” said Shae’s grandmother Carol Rowell. “The only question we have now is why. Why would someone do this to her?”
Sheriff’s deputies had closed off Creek Road Tuesday while homicide and forensic investigators combed through the abandoned house. Creek Road backs up to Hurricane Creek and is off 44th Court in Holt.
Donald Pearson has lived nearby for 33 years and said that the tree-lined dirt and gravel road has always been a magnet for questionable activity.
He said that people go there to use drugs and he’s heard that prostitutes occasionally frequent the isolated road.
“It’s gotten worse in the last 10 or 15 years,” he said. “There is all kinds of stuff going on down there.”
He said that he recently walked down the road and looked inside the abandoned house. The porch had collapsed and the floors had fallen in, he said.

********************

This is the long, sad story of Heaven Ross. Her murderer has gone unpunished for this and, as we all know, if he did this once it is likely he has done it again, especially since he got away with this one. I decided to try to figure out what exactly happened and try to use traditional astrology to define the abductor in, hopefully, clear terms. The first chart I drew up was for 7 am, the time when Heaven left home that morning. Notice how Mercury rules the first and Heaven was a small child at the time. Mercury is in Virgo in the first house, showing the child to be on the move and headed out alone. Mercury is in dignity so the child was in a safe place, a place she was used to (first house) and a place where she regularly stayed. This was her neighborhood. The seventh house ruler shows us the next person she is about to meet and this planet is Neptune in the sixth house. Neptune is disposed of by Uranus which is right at the seventh house cusp. Mars is also at the seventh cusp, just inside the seventh house. This all comes together to tell me that this person is working in the neighborhood. Uranus describes freshly dug up ground such as you find in new construction but the sign Pisces describes water, perhaps underground. Was someone laying new pipe in the area? Water pipes, possibly being buried nearby for new construction? Mars at the seventh describes a "man's man" or working man. Neptune in Aquarius describes a "fleshy" person who may be thick and stocky and possibly muscular. Aquarius can also describe the roofs and eves of buildings, upstairs rooms, walls, shelves, hangers, etc... Neptune describes secret or hidden places, which combined with Aquarius can mean attics, dormers, upstairs closets, etc.. This all seems to describe new construction with freshly dug up ground either laying pipe for waterlines or wiring the homes for electric as Aquarius also rules electricity. So was this guy working on a roof in the area and seen little Heaven in the neighborhood in the past?

Pluto in the fourth house here describes something dangerous on the path ahead, right there in her neighborhood, near her own home. Perhaps in a nearby home, or home being constructed or renovated. The sign Sagittarius can describe horses and stables for horses but as a fire sign it also describes fireplaces and outdoor grills. Overall, it also indicates high, sloping ground. These markers should be looked for in trying to find the area where this house was located. Anyways, I see that the Moon, the chart co ruler, is in the ninth in Taurus right near the node. This describes how he got his opportunity to grab the child unseen. She wandered off the main road for a moment or two in order to examine an animal more closely or to visit with a neighborhood pet. She stepped into a wooded area or someone's backyard to do this. This is where he was able to confront her and snatch her. Moon disposed of by Venus in the twelfth, he was able to hide her and keep her hidden, most likely locked in a closet (Venus) or a cabinet, perhaps in the kitchen or bathroom (the Moon). Venus with the Sun and Jupiter, tightly conjoined in Leo, would indicate a place with gold trim, gold colors, gold metals, shiny, glittery in the sun. Perhaps there were gold faucets in the bathroom or gold trim or filigree on closets or cabinets. Leo also indicates this happened during the daytime hours, which we already know.

At 8:45 am, Mercury moves into the twelfth house. The Moon in Taurus enters the eighth. Mercury and the Moon are in close trine to each other, showing that this child most likely taken captive and hidden away. She didn't live long, as this is a strong death pattern. Venus in the eleventh opposing Neptune in the fifth is a good sign that the child was hidden somewhere and used for sex. The mutual reception between Uranus and Neptune seems to describe photography or photographic equipment. There may have been photos involved in this case. Neptune in the fifth disposed of by Uranus in the sixth with Uranus conjoined Mars and Mars ruling the eighth, these were sex photos taken for his personal use and was mostly a hobby and not a porn business or sex slavery thing. He was not making money from the use of this girl or any other girl. This was driven by a personal desire.

The abductor in this event is defined by Neptune in Aquarius. This gives him a technology fetish, where he collects tech items and likes to play with gadgets. He is fascinated by film, by movies, pictures, photo art, images and music. He probably has a large collection of entertainment items such as music recordings and movies. Neptune in Aquarius in the fifth shows a liking for pornography and an attraction to child porn. Physically, this person would be very attractive with a nice body. He would be obsessed with his physical body and probably exercises, eats carefully and even works out, may be into body building or sculpting. He may have an "adonis" complex, addicted to his own appearance. He may dream of performing in porno movies. He would have soft, curly hair (not frizzy or wild but cut neatly), light eyes and hair, sweeping brows, high cheekbones, the whole pretty boy thing going on. Long eyelashes, dimples, etc.. This man is very passionate, obsessed with sex and very young girls, jealous, with depraved tastes and bad habits.

Discuss This Case At My Forum

In the chart for 9 am, I see that the north node has joined the Moon in Taurus in the eighth house. This man is acting out a complex plan he has and going through motions. Taurus indicates ingrained habits that he cannot seem to break. Mercury trine the node tells us he has done this before with other girls and will do it again. It is a part of a lifestyle for this man. The Moon disposed of by Venus in the eleventh and square to Venus as well is a marker for someone who prefers to have sex with children he does not know. IF he has a daughter or a sister, she is safe. He does not fool around with relatives. Venus so close to the Sun tells me as well that he lives under the thumb of a powerful person in his life, someone who tells him what to do and intimidates him. He is literally afraid of this person, whether this is his father, his wife or a friend.

Mars in the sign Pisces in the sixth house and disposed of by Neptune in the fifth indicates that he uses drugs to enforce his will on his victims. He literally makes them helpless. Mars in Pisces in the sixth retrograde may indicate a paralytic type of drug, one that makes the girls unable to move or resist him. Also, Mars as the eighth house ruler in this configuration, tells me that he is also a necrophiliac and he likes to keep their bodies after they are dead. His plan is a violent one, no doubt, and this can be seen by the exact conjunction between the north node and the fixed star, Caput Algol, the most violent fixed star. The Moon is within 4 four degrees of both the node and Algol, giving double emphasis to this mayhem and because of this I would say her death was violent and sadistic. The disposition of Neptune, the marker for drugs, by the planet Uranus in conjunction with the fixed star, Fomulhaut, another marker for drugs and drug addiction, I think it is safe to say that drugs played a part in this event. This is either his addiction or the use of drugs to subdue his victims or both. Jupiter, which rules the fourth house in the chart for 8 am, is conjoined to the fixed star Pheada, a marker for sex addiction. One more reason to beleive that he has done this before and will do it again. He is not capable of stopping. And, finally, last but not least, is the opposition of the fixed star, Markab, to Mercury, the marker for the child. This fixed star often indicates death by shooting. It is possible that, after all was said and done, the child was shot.

Many of the investigators on this case beleive this might be a serial killer. There are several other similar cases in the same area of the country that may be linked to this one. I will attempt to locate those and chart those and compare them to this one. Look for these in a future post.

Danny Barter

Four Year Old Wanders Off And Just Disappears

Help Solve a 50 Year Old Mystery!

From Crime and Justice:

Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance

Missing Since: June 18, 1959 from Perdido Bay, Alabama
Classification: Endangered Missing
Date Of Birth: December 12, 1954
Age: 4 years old
Height and Weight: 3'0, 50 pounds
Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian male. Brown hair, brown eyes. Barter's nickname is Danny.
Clothing/Jewelry Description: Only gray boxer shorts.

Details of Disappearance

Barter was last seen playing near the banks of Perdido Bay, Alabama at 9:30 a.m. on June 18, 1959. He resided in the 1700 block of Thrush Drive in Mobile, Alabama at the time, and had gone camping at Perdido Bay with his parents, some of his six siblings, an uncle and two cousins. He apparently wandered away from the rest of his family while his parents were preparing some fishing equipment. His mother began searching for him ten or fifteen minutes after she last saw him, but was unable to locate him. He has never been heard from again.

The area Barter disappeared from is swampy and infested with alligators and snakes. Authorities investigated the theory that the child had been attacked by an animal. They even killed and gutted two alligators to look for human remains, but found no evidence of such an attack. Barter's mother stated he did not like the water and she does not believe he would have gone into the bay voluntarily. An extensive search of the region, on both land and water, turned up no sign of the child or his remains. After the search turned up no evidence, investigators looked into the possibility that Barter was abducted, but they were never able to find any clues supporting this theory.

Barter's parents and siblings moved to Texas after his disappearance. His parents have died, but his brothers and sisters are all alive and still hope his case may be resolved.

This case was emailed to me by a loyal reader. Thanks to all of you who take the time to send me cases. I will get to them all eventually, I promise. But this is one that turned out so strangely when I read it that I am now turning it over to my readers to interpret. I will read the chart as I see it, of course, but lay it out for you to determine exactly what did happen here. In truth, the chart left me with questions, and, in fact, remains a mystery to me in many ways. Traditional readings shed uneven light and not everything is clear. You'll see what I mean as I read it. And I leave it up to you to decide what really happened to this boy.

The first chart I drew up was for the time at which Danny Barter was last seen, 9:30 am on June 18. Leo is rising, Aquarius is falling, the Sun is in Gemini in the eleventh house and Uranus is in Leo in the twelfth. When you are reading for a child, you take the first house for the parents and the fifth house for the child. It looks like the parents were enjoying themselves this morning with their children. They were "preparing to go fishing" according to reports and with their marker in the eleventh, that is very likely. They were doing things they wanted to do, even some things they had wished to do for awhile. It was a real vacation. Mercury and Jupiter both describe the child. Mercury is there in the eleventh, near the Sun, showing that he started out the morning with mom and dad. Jupiter is in the fourth house, near the Moon, showing again the child being close to the parents, the home where they were staying, and that Danny was clearly a close member of the family group.

The one outstanding aspect I must point out is the presence of Saturn in the fifth house. Saturn is retrograde in the sign Capricorn and it sextiles Neptune, trines Pluto and opposes Mercury. Since Mercury marks the child in the chart and the fifth house rules the child, we must assume that Saturn has a pivotal role to play in events that occurred. The trine to Pluto right at the Ascendant is important. The Ascendant is the parent's place and Pluto trining the child's planets makes me think that things were good between the parents and the child. Pluto also co rules the fourth house so this brings it into clearer focus, emphasizing it's influence over family events. And, then, to crown it all, Pluto is disposed of by Mercury, which is the child's marker. It just really looks like the kid did not go missing. I am not sure how these aspects will play out against the facts but I'll keep reading to see. However, these initial aspects seem to indicate that these parents will not lose the child for good. On another note, I notice that the seventh house is ruled by Uranus from the twelfth house, in conjunction with Mars and Venus. Now, this sort of looks to me like a group of three people who come upon the family by surprise, almost from behind, perhaps unexpected. There was never any mention of any visitors or neighbors dropping by so this seems odd. Venus rules the midheaven and Mars co rules the nadir, so it looks like these are relatives. Perhaps grandparents or aunts and uncles with or without children. I use plurals because I am not sure if it's either-or or both.

Now, there is an interesting twist in the 10 am chart, which has Virgo rising and Pisces falling with Capricorn still on the fifth. But notice that the parents have now acquired the child's marker, Mercury in Cancer, again emphasizing the familial tie. Neptune, which now rules the seventh, is in the third with the co ruler, Moon. I think these people have joined the parents outdoors around the home, either to "go fishing" or to do other activities. Like I said, these seem to be members of the family, extended or closer. Note also that Saturn, still the fifth house ruler, is in the fifth house, showing the child going off to play. He is probably headed to an area he remembers as a playground or an area where he has played games with other children in the past. This is where he ran off to that morning while they were preparing to go fishing. Saturn disposes itself so Danny was off on his own, he was not taken by anybody, coerced in any way or abducted. He was headed right where he wanted to go. Four years old or not, some kids can be very willful. Danny was a Sagittarius so he was adventurous, unafraid, loved the outdoors and wanted to have fun. One more thing I want to note in the 10 am chart is how the nadir is now at 1 degree of Sagittarius and the midheaven is at 1 degree of Gemini. Where these people that had joined the parents, the grandparents after all? It looks like these people are the parents of one of the parents. I have nothing to corroborate that, it's just what the chart appears to be saying.

In the chart for 11 am you can see the cluster of planets in the eleventh and tenth houses. This tells me that people are helping them look for Danny. They are all gathered around the parents. These are family, friends and even neighbors. The Moon is still in the third, joined by Jupiter and both of the planets are disposed of by Pluto in the twelfth. This describes the parents looking around outside, in the immediate area, in hidden places like behind bushes and over drop offs. They think he is hiding. But notice Saturn, which still rules the fifth, moving through the fourth house. Shocking as this may seem, this child has entered someone's home! It almost looks like the parent's home, or the home where they were staying, but this does not have to be so. The fourth house is ruled by Jupiter, which is placed in the third, describing a home in the neighborhood, perhaps along the beach or woods, nearby, in fact. Since the Moon is lingering there as well, again, I see that this child did not wander far. He was in the neighborhood, in another home in the woods, but very nearby his parents. Not far at all. Like I said, he may even have re-entered the home where the parents were staying!

Neptune rules the seventh and is placed in the second, disposed of by Pluto. This is a planet we will have to watch as the charts unfold. This may very well be the next person Danny meets, whoever it is that lives in this home. Or, conversely, this may have been an abandoned home that no one had been inside of in years, a place forgotten, that went out of memory. The disposal of Neptune by Pluto in the twelfth supports this last assertion, giving the picture of a place that is desolate, filled with pratfalls and possibly dangerous. Is it possible that Danny wandered into an abandoned home and gotten hurt or trapped? When you note that Pluto in the twelfth is trine to Saturn, it seems to say that something attracted the boy. Something dark and mysterious but alluring. Perhaps an animal in the doorway or a toy seen through a window or something shiny from within the darkness. There's no telling. Pluto is mysterious but dangerous and perhaps the child met some danger on his way into this place. Neptune in the second seems to describe something the child would like to have for his own; something like a toy, perhaps. Neptune seems to indicate that he could not clearly make it out and it was curiosity that drew him in closer. What he thought it was may not have been what it actually was but the chance that it might be was alluring enough.

So far, the charts seem to be showing me a boy who has wandered away from home into another home, a place nearby. But moving the charts forward to 1 pm on this day, a different story emerges, one that's hard to reconcile with the facts. Notice in the chart that Aquarius is now on the fifth cusp and Uranus is placed in the tenth. This is showing us the child out in the open and in the company of other people, shown by nearby planets. The first house ruler is now Libra and there is Venus, right next to Uranus. The seventh house ruler is Aries and there is Mars, on the other side of Venus. And oddly enough, the child's universal marker, Mercury is placed there as well. For all appearances, it seems that the child is reunited with his parents. They are all together. And these planets are disposed of by the Sun, which is nearby in the ninth house. They are all together outside, perhaps on the beach? Why, then, did the parents say that they never saw this child again? Or are these NEW parents, perhaps, or, at the very least, people who assumed the role of parent with this child? How then did the child end up with these people in such short order, after merely entering a home nearby? When you see the Moon in the second house in Scorpio, not far from Jupiter, it makes you wonder if money was involved somehow. Did money exchange hands? Was this the parents selling their child? Or was this a ransom for the child that was never reported and never met? Was the child kidnapped after all and the parents could not meet the ransom so out of embarrassment, they said the child ran off? And, again, another thought. Perhaps they gave the child to someone else who had more money than they did; or even to someone who needed money that they might receive for raising this child? These questions are all legitimate. What do you think the chart says?

Other points I'd like to make: In the chart for 1 pm, please note that the node is at the first house cusp. The exact degree on the first cusp is near square to Mercury, seeming to say that, at this point, it is unlikely the parents will see the child again. This should be measured carefully. It will give credence to the parent's story. Notice also that the cluster of planets in the eleventh, denoting the child and others, are in direct square to Neptune in Scorpio, now in the first. Was this an adoption gone wrong? Did someone promise money and then run with the boy? I know this all sounds like crazy speculation and I agree, that's what it is. Break out your detective's hat and work it with me. I do not have a pat answer in this case, too much of it is hazy and hard to read. I will not say the parents did anything wrong and from the aspects in the charts, it seems they had a lovely relationship with this child so I doubt they meant him harm. In fact, I do not see him harmed, there are no violent aspects here. He was not assaulted, raped, attacked, abused or mauled in any way. And I tend to believe that he was alive after this day and for quite some time later, if not still. And, so, what did happen to the boy? Are the parents telling the truth and they know nothing of his disappearance and have not seen him since? Or are they culprits in a scheme of sorts, either for money or just to get out a jam? Was the boy abducted and the parents feared for their lives? This is all conjecture but honest thought none the less. I'd appreciate help with this case, so if you have a desire to study it, post your ideas, readings and comments so everyone can see them. Help me solve this one. Danny Barter is missed.

Now, here is the real twist in this chart. Traditional readings give that if the fifth house ruler is retrograde and is in good aspect to a planet in the first, the child will be found. In this chart, Jupiter rules the fifth, is placed in the fourth and is retrograde. The Moon has just left a conjunction with Jupiter, the Sun, which rules the first, is inconjunct to Jupiter and the Ascendant degree, 26 degrees of Leo, is closely square Jupiter in 23 degrees of Scorpio and sinister in aspect. This has a marked WOW factor, showing exactly the aspects one would expect to find in a traditional reading where the child would never be found. But please notice that there are contradicting aspects, as well. Saturn is placed in the fifth in four degrees of Capricorn, in retrograde motion, and is closely trine to Pluto, placed in one degree of Virgo in the first. This seems to tell us they will see this child again. How do you combine these conflicting influences? If you measure each aspect by degree and placement, looking for debilities, dignities and such, you might be able to deduce which influence is actually the greater. But none of these planets or placements are in particular dignity or debility, save Saturn in Capricorn. And this planet is the one placement that tells us they will see the child again. And, yet, we KNOW that they never saw this child again.

Continuing the argument even further, on the premise that the time at which he was last seen is not the appropriate measure of events and only the chart at which time was KNOWN TO BE MISSING should be used, I move forward to the chart for 10:00 am. This is around the time they would have known the child was gone, if not earlier, in fact, because he was not expected to be going anywhere. In fact, the moment he went out of sight he was known to be missing. But allowing for preoccupation on the part of the parents, I move the chart forward a bit just to see if the new aspects fall in line with traditional reading. But this chart is even MORE concisely saying that the child will be seen again! Amazingly, at this point, Capricorn has taken the fifth house cusp, with Saturn placed there in 4 degrees. And the Ascendant point has moved forward just enough to place 2 degrees of Virgo on the first house cusp! This is a near exact trine between these planets, a traditional marker telling the reader that the child will be seen again. Amazing. Now, one can argue that the fifth and first house cusps are often in trine aspect, merely by their natural trine placement, but one cannot extend that argument to include a fifth house ruler. That's what makes this chart so exemplary. However, if you take the same fifth house ruler, Saturn in Capricorn and aspect it in relation to the RULER of the first, which is Mercury, you'd find an opposition. So which is it? What would you read? These aspects, traditional readings, and variables in these kinds of charts all merit much further study. Perhaps I'll tackle it on my other blog, the Tablet. Someday, no doubt, when I have lots of time to spare. For now, I ask you to lend me your thoughts.

HAVE YOU SEEN ME?

I offer the last known photo of Danny Barter in the hopes that someone might know him. He is much older now, as shown in the progression on the website below, so look around you and see if someone you know might be Danny. He may very well go by another name and have no memory of who he was. Although his parents are dead, his sisters and brothers would love to know whatever became of Danny. If you think you have viable information that may help them reunite with Danny, please call 251-972-8589 or go to Danny Barter
